Text Box: GODINTON HOUSE PRESERVATION TRUST
Godinton Lane, Ashford, Kent, TN23 3BP

A fascinating Jacobean house and twelve acres of tranquil gardens are contained within the great yew boundary hedge.

Our knowledgeable guides will show you 700 years of history within the rooms of this comfortable, much loved home.

Each room contains furniture, porcelain, portraits and curios collected by successive generations of the Toke family.

Outside terraced lawns, topiary and a large lily pond make a formal area softened by curvy edged herbaceous borders, mature magnolias and

willows with roses and clematis tumbling down the steps.  A newly designed rose garden is a voluptuous mix of shrub roses and herbaceous planting and

the Italian garden with its statuary, Mediterranean planting and gentle fountain make a perfect  place to sit on a warm day.

A large walled kitchen garden is home to a spectacular collection of delphiniums provided by the local Delphinium Society, fruit trees have

been planted on the walls and there are beds of cutting flowers and vegetables laid out in front of a new Victorian style greenhouse.

Get your garden and yourself into shape for the New Year

If your New Year’s Resolution is to burn off some calories, get your garden under control or take up a new interest Godinton House have a new programme of gardening workshops for 2012.

The year kicks off with a rose pruning morning on Saturday the 4th of February with Viv Hunt (Head Gardener) and Fiona Abrahams (Hadlow College lecturer).  They will be demonstrating rose pruning and training techniques on the climbers, ramblers and shrub roses throughout the fabulous gardens at Godinton.  They will   explain how to produce better flowering, healthy plants with advise on year round care and companion planting.  A hands-on session will be held in the rose garden so that all participants can practice the advice and leave feeling confident enough to be really bold with their own roses.

On Saturday the 3rd March the ‘Generous Gardener’ workshop will be looking at propagation techniques so that you can fill your garden with plants for free.  Learn how to sow seed indoors and out, take cuttings and divide plants so that you can increase your stock and share plants with friends and neighbours.  Everyone will be able to try out the techniques and take home cuttings of Godinton’s choice plants.

The Practical Gardener is the ideal course for anyone who wants to learn how to get the best from their garden.  It can be taken as a continuation from the previous beginner’s course or as a chance to fill in some of the gaps in your gardening knowledge.  Six morning sessions of hands-on practical experience of essential gardening skills with Fiona and Viv.

The one-off workshops run from 9.30am ‘til 2.30pm with hot and cold drinks, cakes and biscuits provided.  Bring a packed lunch (Godinton will provide somewhere warm to eat it).  Cost £45.00

The six week course is on Friday mornings (9.30am – 1.30pm) starting 24th of February and costs £175.
